Dyking Infrastructure

A key role

Pemberton is one of the largest dyke and flood protection areas in BC.

As one of the largest dyke and flood protection areas in BC, maintaining, adapting and upgrading the flood protection systems in Pemberton plays a key role in ensuring that this valley remains not only beautiful, but safe, sustainable and prosperous for all local residents while at the same time being sensitive to the natural environment.

There are 44 km of dykes, 25 km of drainage ditches, 30+ culverts and flap gates and 16 km of bank armoring in the valley that are maintained by the Pemberton Valley Dyking District as well as sediment management in all major rivers and creeks that is required to maintain dyke free board.
